Pastor Morgan was shocked! The smartest student in the whole catechism class, which lasted two years, does not want to be confirmed? “Al” short for Alowishus Mergenthal Burmeister III takes online classes at home. Al is well read and can run circles around other classmates in the catechism class in knowledge about world history, religions, current events, and assorted math-science areas. However, Al’s mother told Pastor Morgan that he does not believe in God. Nor does Al believe he can confess the creeds in good conscience maybe not even take communion. Al likes Pastor Morgan’s class.

Acts 3:12-19
We all make mistakes. Peter recounts to the Israelites the scope of their mistake, in not seeing Jesus as the Messiah, and killing him. While we haven’t really made this mistake in our lives — the crucifixion of Jesus — we have committed other crucifixions. For instance:

The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (v. 1)

I guess when your filmmaker Peter Jackson and you’ve managed to create a whole film industry in New Zealand thanks to the success of his two cinematic trilogies, “The Lord of the Rings,” and “The Hobbit,” you can give all the time you want to whatever project you fancy!

I watched highlights from the London Marathon on television just before Easter. As well as exceptionally good running from some of the world's top athletes, we saw huge numbers of people thoroughly enjoying themselves and having a lot of fun. Most of them were running to raise money for various charities, and millions of pounds was raised.

This psalm is familiar to those whose liturgical traditions include an evening, or Evensong, service -- for its last line often appears in sung liturgy: "I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety" (v. 8).

The "peace," of course, is shalom -- that deep, abiding inner peace that penetrates to every part of the human personality. It allows the writer of this psalm to sleep at night.

Lately, I've been thinking that I'd rather not be referred to as a Christian. I don't always like being put in the same category with the kinds of people who like to call themselves Christians. I'm referring to the ones who will put out a directory of businesses that are identified as Christian businesses so all the Christians can do business with each other. There's something about that that just rubs me in the wrong way. It makes Christianity sound like an exclusive club. If you're in the club, we want to support you and if you're not in the club, forget it.

The testimony of Easter is that Jesus joins us again, on earth, after his resurrection from the dead. The disciples make this testimony in at least three ways: on the road to Emmaus, to Mary in the garden, and in our text today, in a request for something to eat for breakfast.

Many people have wished for something larger and more dramatic, only to be given these simple appearances. Many of us also want to be touched by God in our regular life. We await the thunderbolt experience, only to receive the still, small whisper.
Richard E. Gribble
"In the seventh year of his reign, two days before his sixty-fifth birthday, in the presence of a full consistory of cardinals, Jean Marie Barette, Pope Gregory XVII, signed an instrument of abdication, took off the Fisherman's ring, handed his seal to the Cardinal Camerlengo and made a curt speech of farewell." So begins the power novel The Clowns of God, the second volume of a trilogy of tales about popes and faith written by Morris West, the Australian-born author. In the story the Pope has seen a vision of the Second Coming.
