Preaching The Lectionary Psalms for Cycles A, B, C
This psalm is familiar to those whose liturgical traditions include an evening, or Evensong, service -- for its last line often appears in sung liturgy: "I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety" (v. 8).
The "peace," of course, is shalom -- that deep, abiding inner peace that penetrates to every part of the human personality. It allows the writer of this psalm to sleep at night.
