LIVING WITH LIMITS
Theological Musings For The Twenty-first Century
One of the leaders in the world of pastoral psychology is Wayne Oates. When he was a young graduate student, Wayne pastored a small church in Kentucky. He and his wife would commute to the church on Saturdays, hold services on Sundays, and return to the school Sunday evening. On one such occasion they were staying with an old farmer and his wife. After an early dinner, the old farmer and his wife washed the dishes. Then the farmer looked at the young pastor. "Brother Oates," he said, "are you or Mrs. Oates sick?" Wayne responded, "Why, no, we're fine."
