For something like two years
Jesus had traveled the length and breadth
of Israel
teaching
preaching
healing.

Sometimes
the crowd that gathered about him
was large.

Other times
it was quite small.

Once in a while
it was made up
mainly of adults
but
more often than not
children of all ages
were also present.

So
whenever he spoke
it was apt to be against a background
of children
crying in their mothers' arms
of the noise made by games of tag
