A young woman living near Chicago is running a business known as "Speak Up Service." For a fee, she will deliver a message for another person who can choose to be identified or remain anonymous. She says that most of her calls are from people who are angry about something and want someone to know.
As Christians with a message about Jesus Christ, each of us may want to use a "Speak Up Service": Let somebody else tell the message for me; I don't want to do it directly. But that's not what Jesus asks us to do. Actually, he says that each of us individually is to be a "Speak Up Service" for him! Before he ascended to heaven, he gave to his followers this responsibility "You will be witnesses for me." (Acts 1:8 TEV) That command has never been retracted.
And should this be so hard for us to do? We aren't speaking an "anger" message but a "love" message. We are letting people now that in Jesus Christ God has answered our greatest needs. We are sharing our own experience of God's goodness and mercy in our lives. We are telling people that we hae a Savior who died for our sins on the Cross and who rose from the dead to open heaven for us. He says to all those who believe in him, "I am going to prepare a place for you ... I will come back and take your to myself, so that you will be where I am." (John 14:2, 3)
