Sermons on the Gospel Readings
Today we Christians celebrate Easter Sunday. Unlike Christmas, always celebrated on December 25, Easter doesn't have a specific day on the calendar. Easter comes somewhere between late March and late April, and most of us know something about the reason for this: Easter is linked to the Jewish celebration of Passover, which is tied to the seasons of the moon calendar. Desert people looked to the recurrences of the moon in order to calculate time. So Easter, in conjunction with Passover is celebrated on the Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox (about March 21).
