Call To Worship
Leader: When we are without God, we are untouchable thorns. People protect themselves from us and keep their distance.
People: When we are with God, we become touchable and kind. People sense an invitation and approach us.
Collect
Gracious God, we yearn to be in a right relationship with you, with ourselves, and with those around us. In a rebirth of connecting, let the deserts of our relationships burst into soft flower and dance in the wind. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Dear God, when we become so overwhelmed by our loads of work, life, and family that we present our thorny side, draw us nearer to you. Quiet our weariness so we might heed the strength of your transforming presence. Amen.
64B Hymns
"Morning Has Broken" Tune: BUNESSAN
"Strengthen All The Weary Hands" Tune: SONG OF REJOICING
"O Day Of God, Draw Near" Tune: ST. MICHAEL
Proper 29 (Christ The King)
Sunday between November 20 and November 26 inclusive
Second Lesson: Revelation 1:4b-8
Theme: To God Who Loves Us
Call To Worship
Leader: A salute to almighty God who loves us and frees us and created us to be part of God's realm:
All: To God who is, who was, who is to come:
To you, the Alpha and the Omega:
To you, Creator, Savior, and Sustainer:
To you, we give glory and power forever. Amen.
Collect
Today -- this year, this century -- is within your realm of alpha and omega, O God. You have become neither outmoded nor irrelevant. You are still at all our beginnings. You are still at our endings. You are still everywhere in between. All praise to you, O faithful, mighty one. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
No matter how often we try to push you aside, O God, or how busily we attempt to forget about you, you still are and will be. You find a way to come to us. Forgive our making you trivial in our lives. Accept our gratitude for your persistent coming. Through Christ. Amen.
64B Hymns
"Jesus Shall Reign" Tune: DUKE STREET
"Lo, He Comes With Clouds Descending" Tune: HELMSLEY or PICARDY
"All Hail The Power Of Jesus' Name" Tune: CORONATION
Proper 29 (Christ The King)
Sunday between November 20 and November 26 inclusive
Gospel: John 18:33-37
Theme: Mystery, Mystery
Call To Worship
We proclaim God as sovereign. We belong to the truth. We listen to God's voice. Come, let us worship God who reigns with the mysterious power of love and hope and truth.
Collect
We hear your voice in the truths our highest laws point to, O victorious, reigning God. We hear your voice in the fair acts that reflect relationships governed by love. We hear your voice in the hope welling up within us with sufficient vigor to keep us going. All praise to you, O living God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We proclaim you sovereign, O God, within a world that appears oblivious to authority. Perhaps, God, you are that power enabling us to persist in talking out troubling issues. Perhaps you are the one who empowers us to persevere in the struggle for what is just and right. Perhaps you are the creative force behind imagination, the birth of ideas, and discovery. Even as we ponder, the mystery of your being draws us to your truth. In the Spirit of Christ. Amen.
64B Hymns
"[Ye][You] Servants Of God, Your [Master][Sovereign] Proclaim" or "O Worship The King" Tune: HANOVER
"Enter In The Realm Of God" Tune: DANDANSOY
"Rejoice, Give Thanks And Sing" or "Rejoice, The Lord Is King" Tune: DARWALL'S 148TH
