Third Sunday of Easter
Preaching
Lectionary Preaching Workbook
Series III
It was suggested in the Lectionary Preaching Workbook III, Cycle A, that the Third Sunday of Easter has displaced the traditional Second Sunday after Easter with its biblical and theological emphasis on "the goodness of the Lord" in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Second Sunday after Easter was known as Misericordia Domini in the sacramentaries and other liturgical books, but was properly called Good Shepherd Sunday. This title came from the Gospel for the Day, John 10:11-15.
