The older I get, the more convinced I am that God created preaching as much for the benefit of the preacher as for what happens to the congregation. Could it be that in the divine scheme of things we have been equipping, instructing, and encouraging ourselves even more than those who sit at our feet when we preach? Could it be that this is what God intended all along? We go into our pulpits with zeal and a sense of mission to proclaim the gospel to our congregation, when all along, through God's spirit, God is inspiring the preacher with a sense of mission.
