When the fires were finally extinguished, near Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon Building, which had taken such a severe blow on September 11, 2001, immediately the proper authorities set about to remove the damage and replace what had been destroyed.
The original building had been well constructed. In fact, some renovation was being done, particularly in that sector that had been hit. Architects and draftsmen worked overtime with new and stronger plans, which would bring life out of destruction.
Persons visiting the site observed how everyone went about their tasks with much fervor. They would rebuild, yes! And it would be a demonstration to the world what can happen when a true democracy is doing its very best.
There is a biblical parallel to all of this: In the book of Nehemiah, we have the story of Nehemiah, the cup bearer of King Artaxerxes of Persia. The king granted favor to Nehemiah to go back as the governor of Jerusalem, his home, and rebuild the walls of the city.
There is a fascinating story, of how opposing enemies -- Sanballot, Geshem, and Tobiah -- sought to stop the massive undertaking of the Jewish people. The task was completed in 52 days.
Back to the rebuilding of the Pentagon. By September 11, 2002, one year later, the huge project was completed, even to rebuilding the outside wall. Sandstone was used from the same quarry in Indiana where the original stone had been carved. It matched exactly the rest of the building! Once again the largest building in the U.S.A. represented the purpose the rebuilders had in mind, to confront the forces of satan with ultimate victory.
Like the builders of Jerusalem in 432 B.C., the people at the Pentagon had a mind to work.
