"Just" is such a horrid little word. We use it most often as a
put down of ourselves. "I'm just a housewife;" "I'm just a
plumber;" "I'm just a woman," "I'm just a salesman or teacher;"
"I'm just one man." It's demeaning when we refer to our
personhood or our life's activities in that way. Some even use it
to pray, saying, "I just want to thank you (praise you, ask you
to do this for me)." The word refers to barely or very little,
when used as an adverb in the latter example, or as a descriptive
