31 Object Lessons from Nature
Object:
a lizard (any lizard will do, it doesn't have to be anything fancy, but bigger is always better) and a dime
Scripture: Revelation 3:16
So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Material: a lizard (any lizard will do, it doesn't have to be anything fancy, but bigger is always better) and a dime
Our visitor in class today is a lizard. (explain what kind of lizard, how you come to have it, some of its habits, and the like) Lizards come in all different shapes and sizes. Did you know that the world's smallest lizard is so small that a full-grown one can curl up and take a nap on a dime? (show dime) And the world's largest lizard, the Komodo dragon, can weigh up to 300 pounds! Some lizards eat plants. Some lizards eat meat. Some lizards eat both! Some lizards are good swimmers. Some lizards live in the desert and never see any more water than the dew on a blade of grass. Some lizards are gray and brown and can hide in sand and rocks and trees. Other lizards have bright and flashy colors that make you notice them wherever they are.
But there is one thing all lizards have in common. Lizards cannot keep themselves warm. They are what we call "cold-blooded." Lizards have to lay out in the sun, or find some other source of heat, to keep their bodies from getting so cold that they just go to sleep or even die. As a lizard cools off, he moves slower and slower. A lizard can't do much when he is only lukewarm. Lizards need to stay hot!
When I see a lizard, it reminds me that I need to stay hot, too. I need to stay hot for Jesus! If I don't hear the Word of God and worship him and stay around my good Christian friends, I might become a lukewarm Christian. And a Christian can't do much when he is lukewarm.
So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
