Day Of Thanksgiving
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Thanks-By-Giving
Call To Worship
We come today to rejoice in the many blessings God has given us. We come to give thanks for the abundance of God's blessings bestowed upon us. We come to remember that out of our abundance we are to share joyously and generously, that Christ's work may be carried out here on earth.
Invocation
Lord, help us to realize that there is no "Thanks-taking" day or "Thanks-getting" day. "Thanks-giving" is the tune of angels, and if we forget the language of Thanksgiving we will never be on speaking terms with happiness. Thanks-giving isn't meant for just one day, but for always; and so we give you thanks for all your blessings today, tomorrow, and forever. Bless us, we pray, so that as we have received so may we give. Amen.
Confession
Lord, we have been quick to thank you for your many blessings, but we have been slow in remembering that you have provided in abundance in order that we might share abundantly in every good work. Quicken our concern for others, and enable us to share joyfully in the work of your kingdom. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Gracious God, you have poured upon us every blessing imaginable, and more. Put your Spirit in our hearts, that this offering may be a sign of our new life in Christ. Guide and transform what we offer, that our gifts may bring abundant blessings to others. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Ye Thankful People, Come"
"Praise To The Lord, The Almighty"
"Forth In Thy Name, O Lord"
