A young boy had a question for his Sunday school teacher. In the Bible Jesus says, "I am the Light of the world" (John 8:12). Also, in the Bible Jesus says, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). What the student wanted to know was this, "Who is the light of the world?" The teacher tried to tell the boy that both statements are true. Jesus is the Light of the world, but how is that light brought into the world? Jesus uses us to reflect his light into a world made dark by sin. The Sunday school teacher tried to explain this to the student by using an illustration. A few days before an electrical storm caused a power failure. His wife had to light candles throughout the house. The candles made holes in the darkness. But before the candles could do this, they had to first receive a light. Christians receive the Light of Christ, and then reflect his Light to others. The Sunday school teacher also tried to tell this student that it would have done no good for his wife to light candles in the house and then place them under a bushel basket. Jesus tried to make this point in the verse that this Sunday school student referred to when he quoted from the Bible, "You are the light of the world." The point that the Sunday school teacher was trying to make was this, "You cannot receive the love of Christ and keep it to yourself. You cannot have the light of Christ dwelling within you without that light being seen by others. This is what makes each Christian the light of the world." -- Frank
