When your dog looks at the door, with tail wagging, it is clear that it is expecting someone to take it for a stroll. Quite often the words, "What do you want?" are enough to get the tail wagging, along with all kinds of acts of jubilation. That show of faith in the dog's mind achieves the desired goal -- in this case, a walk.
When Jesus asks the blind Bartimaeus what he wants, it is obvious that he knows perfectly well what the answer will be. We can almost hear the strong affirmation in the blind man's answer, as if he knows that in asking he will receive. There is a kind of expectation and electricity in the moment. Jesus calls it faith and rewards it accordingly.
If this simple demonstration of obvious faith can win such great rewards, then we, too, can be encouraged that our faith response, even at its weakest and self-preserving worst, is heard, affirmed, and richly rewarded.
