When American cyclist and Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong was first diagnosed with cancer, one of his first concerns was whether or not his sponsors like Nike and Oakley and his team Cofidis would keep him on or drop him. Much to his relief, after he announced he had cancer, all his sponsors and his new team quickly said they would not desert him.
However, once the treatments started and Lance began to look like a cancer patient, his new team Cofidis exercised a medical option in his contract and dropped him, leaving him without any medical insurance and with very little income. When times got tough, Cofidis deserted their new star.
It's no surprise that right after he crossed the finish line in Paris, winning his first post-cancer Tour de France, Armstrong made sure to ride by the Cofidis team van and say, "That one's for you!"
Paul also knew what it was like to be deserted. But Paul assures us that God, our biggest sponsor, will never desert us.
