We know that the pews in our churches are rarely filled to capacity. The situation is even worse in Europe, where Christianity primarily came from in the first place. On television, though, things do not look so bad. When we see the Pope at the Vatican, usually all of St. Peter's Basilica is filled with thousands of people crowding in to hear what he has to say.
But once you leave Vatican City, things are quite different. Right outside the walls of the Vatican, in Italy, it is common to find fewer than one out of every sixteen people in worship on a given Sunday. But in comparison, the Italians seem to be very religious when compared to the Scandinavians, of whom fewer than one out of thirty attend worship each week.
Jesus warns us not to take his mercy for granted. Because he states that we run the risk of having the kingdom taken away from us and given to those who will produce fruit. -- Bowen
