Two parents disagreed about how Linda should teach eighth grade Sunday school. One
said, "Teach the Ten Commandments. Society pressures kids to abandon the Christian
ethic." Another insisted, "Teach God's love and forgiveness. That's the center of the
Christian faith."
Linda asked the two parents to attend the next class. Before class she gathered her students at the bottom of the stairs. "Do you know how little children go upstairs?" The children enjoyed describing how they hugged the wall or latched onto the railing. "Exactly," she said. "As you grow up, you don't need the railing. Today we'll study how people young in life or young in faith need the law outside of them, like a wall or railing, to lead them. When they're mature in Christ, they go up the stairs on their own, without a thought. Let's go upstairs to class and read how Paul explains this in Galatians."
