Sometimes it's obvious that history is being made: when a transcontinental railroad is
completed, when a peace treaty is signed, when a new vaccine is released, when the first
spacecraft leaves earth's orbit, when a sealed tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh is opened, or
when election results roll in. However, the modern media has made us immune to
announcements of "world-shaking" events. We've become jaded and resistant to public
relations releases.
Even with modern hype to tone down our expectations, we'd agree with the citizens of Nazareth. They've courteously welcomed an itinerant preacher upon his return home. He gives an impromptu sermon. They conclude that Jesus blows the event out of proportion.
Jesus says that God's dealings with the covenant people have aimed toward this minute. The past and the future, God's promise and fulfillment, culminate at this time and place like spokes into history's hub.
