So much that goes on...

So much that goes on in Washington seems painfully at variance with our biblical faith -- indifference to the poor and hungry of our land, shameless attempts to deny basic human rights to minorities, unseemly support of repressive dictatorships in places like Nicaragua and South Africa, and the heartless pursuit of selfish interest. What an encouragement to discover other nobler motives and influences are also present in our nation's capital! New York Times Religious Editor, Kenneth Briggs, told (7130184) about a place of prayer on Capital Hill called Madonna House -- founded and operated by three Catholic lay-workers. The purpose is to provide a place of silence and solace where busy governmental workers could go: "It is a place for them to listen to God. And it is a place for someone to listen to them." Even in a city of intrigue and power God has a cloud of witnesses. Our leaders are touched and influenced by this modern-day cloud of witnesses who, in turn, look for their inspiration to "Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith."
