Roland Huntford's The Last...

Roland Huntford's The Last Place on Earth recounts the classic race for the South Pole. In 1912 two men, Norwegian Roald Amundsen and English Robert F. Scott attempted to reach the South Pole. Amundsen's preparations had been painstakingly exact. Scott's on the other hand had been somewhat arbitrary. Amundsen didn't alter the planned number of men who would make the final rush towards the Pole. Scott opted to make a change in plans immediately prior to the final rush departure. The environment on the Polar continent is the harshest in the world.
