The path of life is...
Illustration
The path of life is strewn with obstacles. People are made in such a way that they like obstacles -- the more the better. Like jigsaw puzzles. Jigsaw fans can do puzzles with a thousand pieces which have incredibly difficult pictures on them. There's a puzzle out now with one thousand tiny pieces, all identical in shape. And if you want the advanced version, they'll put the same picture on the other side, but turned ninety degrees. Talk about difficulty level! And people do this for fun. Human beings go slack and atrophy if they don't have some stress, some obstacle to overcome. God made us that way. And that's good! For we need the gumption to overcome obstacles if we are to feed, clothe, house, support and entertain ourselves, to build a career, vocation or business, and to solve the simple and complex problem of existence. But sometimes we get the idea we do it all ourselves. We are so proud of our achievements that we forget to give God the glory. So overcoming obstacles -- achieving success -- can be an obstacle by itself. We need obstacles to grow. Even for growth in the life of faith. For in faith the obstacles can bring us closer to God. He can overcome all the obstacles there are, but we need to ask. The biggest obstacles are the biggest blessings, for they drive us to ask for help. And that is when we are strongest. "For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Corinthians 12:10). -- Mosley
