In March 1917, under great duress, Czar Nicolas II abdicated the Russian throne. A
provisional government was established in Russia. Shortly thereafter, Lenin returned to
Russia from Switzerland to dominate the new government. In a famous speech, Lenin
promised peace, bread, and freedom to a country which was war-weary and hungry.
Turmoil was the order of the day. July saw a failed armed demonstration in Petrograd,
which forced Lenin into hiding once more. The provisional government and the people of
Russia were deeply divided. These were unstable times for Russia.
Then in October, the Bolsheviks, led by Lenin who had entered the country incognito, seized control. In short order, members of the provisional government were arrested, several of Lenin's declarations were enacted, and the press was censored. It was the end of imperialism for Russia and the beginning of a new order: communism.
When Jesus came he established a new order. He did it without a political coup d'etat or revolution, but by offering himself as a perfect sacrifice.
