Many years ago, in a former congregation, I had a member who had previously belonged to a small sect church, in the south, that practiced footwashing. I was curious about the custom and asked her what it meant to her. She replied although she liked our church, she missed the footwashing custom of her old church. It meant a closer bond between members of the congregation, because as she said: "It's pretty hard to be mad at someone who has just washed your feet."
