Lystra was a Roman colony founded by Caesar Augustus and was only eleven miles from Pisidian Antioch. Here the credulous and idolatrous Lystrans bowed in fealty before Paul and Barnabas, thinking them to be gods. After all, they reasoned, had not Paul healed a cripple? Paul sharply reminded the Lystrans it was God, and not himself, who had healed the cripple.
