Lindy is 24 years old. Following her college graduation, she spent a year teaching in a rural Kenyan village. This past year she taught predominately Hispanic students in Fort Worth, Texas.

Within the next month, Lindy will undergo surgery in order to donate a kidney to her mother, who is in failing health. The surgeon has informed Lindy that even though she will take longer to recover than her mother, the surgery is not nearly as perilous as a decade or two ago. As long as her remaining kidney functions efficiently, she should continue in excellent health.
