It was a cold, wintry night when an older lady was on her deathbed. There were no
chaplains or clergy around at such a late hour of the night. Even if there were, the roads
were so snow covered and icy, it would be dangerous for anybody to drive on them. The
older woman requested a prayer, but nobody on the floor was particularly "religious."
One man who just got out of an alcoholic treatment center offered the "Serenity Prayer"
to the woman. He read her the "Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous." He found a
Gideon Bible in the cabinet, and read her Psalm 23. The woman died.
