It is usually my nose...

It is usually my nose, not my ears, that sometimes itches during a church service, more often than not during one of the prayers or the sermon. I don't want to scratch such an itch and detract from what's going on. I try to hold off until a hymn when I'm sure most eyes will be directed to the hymnals and not on me. The strange thing is that, if I can be patient until a convenient time, my nose usually has stopped itching and I don't need to scratch it at all. Patience seems to be the key.
When Paul speaks of impatient parishioners to Timothy, he implies their "itching ears" might be taken to some other kind of preacher for "scratching." The message seems to be, to be patient, hang in there, and, for many, the itch will go away and those ears will be hearing again.
