It came from beneath the sea
Theaters in the 1950s were deluged with "wildlife-gone-amok" disaster films ... usually low-budget, always great fun. One of my favorites is It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955). This movie was so low budget, its giant octopus was limited to six arms! Special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen kept his stop-motion cephalopod in the water to cover up the missing limbs, but as you watch this creature giving the Golden Gate Bridge a big hug, you can't help but wonder if it left its tentacles in San Francisco.
