I remember reading a great theologian of our century who said that the Creed should be always sung. I believe that he meant by adding the art of music, the full participation of singing to our words of belief, we both underscored our witness to the world and to ourselves. How often do we discover that we can remember a verse of poetry because we have sung it, not just spoken it? The Prophet expresses it well: "... the Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation." For him, God is not just the strength of faith, but the very song that celebrates that faith. God is in the music as well as the text. By singing of God, we enter into the feeling of the composer of the music and, in turn, the feeling of God as Creator. When the Prophet goes on, "Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously," we are invited to enter into the feelings of triumph, to sense in our voices and hearts the great works of God.
