Hunger is a reality for...

Hunger is a reality for over 800 million people on the face of the earth. Each year six million children in developing countries die, many due to hunger-related causes. In America, 12 million children live in households that have to forego a meal daily because the family has to eat less to make ends meet. When Jesus says, "Feed my sheep," the advocacy group Bread for the World takes his words to heart and acts on them -- urgently and literally. In 1972 a group of Catholic and Protestants got together to ask and answer the question, "What can we do to help end hunger?" They decided to organize to influence U. S. government policies on matters that pertain to the causes of hunger. Within a year they had 500 participants in this conversation. Today 45,000 people share in the challenge to "Feed my sheep." In their own words, "Bread for the World is a Christian voice for ending hunger." Bread for the World lobbies the U. S. government specifically to develop policies that take into account the needs of hungry people both at home and abroad. Forty-five denominations and church agencies support Bread for the World.
