Eugene Peterson relates an incident...

Eugene Peterson relates an incident in his early ministry involving his nine-year-old daughter Karen. He often would take her with him as he visited nursing homes. The older people brightened immediately when she entered the room. They liked her smile. They asked her questions. They touched her skin and stroked her hair. One day while visiting together they met Mrs. Herr who was in an advanced stage of dementia. She too was attracted to Karen and began telling her a story out of her childhood. When she finished the story she began repeating the same story again, again, and again.
