Easter is God's affirmative YES to life. Easter is the Lord's imprimatur to immorality. Easter is light in a land of brooding darkness. Easter is healing balm in a world of nuclear bombs. Easter is the dove of hope among the unleashed dogs of war. Easter is a beacon of hope in a world shrouded by the noxious fogs of fear.
In 1815 the British Isles awaited the outcome of the battle of Waterloo with trepidation. Signals of the battle's outcome were relayed across the land. At last a ship approached the White Cliffs of Dover and flashed the words
W-E-L-L-l-N-G-T-O-N D-E-F-E-A-T-E-D. A gloomy populace heard the report and wept. Then the soupy English fog closed in, even as the daggers of despair plunged their rapier-like points into the collective heart of John Bull. But the fog lifted and grief was turned to joy because it was learned the message had not been completed! The ship resumed signaling out the glad hallelujah of victory, "W-E-L-L-I-N-GT-O-N D-E-F-E-A-T-E-D T-H-E E-N-E-M-Y. The despair of Friday was not the complete message of the Word of God. Only on Easter Sunday did God's message of eternal life ring across the hills and down the valleys of time: H-E A-R-O-S-E H-A-L-L-E-L-U-J-A-H, C-H-R-I-S-T A-R-O-S-E!
The witness of the resurrection of Christ, brought by Peter to Cornelius, instilled joy in the hearts of Gentiles. We, today, hear Peter's Gospel message anew and rejoice in the resurrection of Christ our Lord.
