During the Civil War, Sherman...

During the Civil War, Sherman was making progress in his march to Atlanta. General
Hood of the Confederates had just been given command of a large Confederate force.
They were succeeding in their plan to cut off supplies to the Union Army and it was
doubtful if they could hold out. The Union officer, Course, was sent to help at Allatoona.
For a while, Sherman could only wait. Then a flag officer wigwagged the words, "Course
is here." But even further help was needed. The famous message was sent from Sherman
by heliograph, "Hold the fort for I am coming."
A young officer in Sherman's army, Major Whittle, related this incident to the renowned evangelist and hymn writer P. B. Bliss who went on to write the famous hymn of past generations, "Hold The Fort For I Am Coming."
Jesus promised to return, and we are called on to be prepared, to "hold on," and to fight spiritual warfare until he does arrive.
