In a day and age when people need positive role models, the church is often the place to look. All of us, from time to time, have been disappointed by some indiscretion splashed all over the media about people we trust and admire.
Bill is in his nineties and continues to help out at the church whenever he can. People are surprised to learn how old he is and that he is still driving. Bill has a great sense of humor that serves to draw people to him. On the Sunday following his sixtieth wedding anniversary, he shared how he and Carol decided to get married after only one date. He said that the marriage must have taken, since they were married for sixty years. People chuckled at this story.
Bill is probably unaware of how many people from the church and community look up to him. Many seek advice from Bill, knowing that he genuinely cares about everyone. Bill is in the truest sense a gentleman. People of all ages seek his advice on a variety of issues, from personal problems to help with raising children, even dealing with aging parents. Bill seeks out others in the congregation as well. Throughout the year he makes handmade crafts that he gives away to everyone. "Here I made something for you," he will say. Those wooden crafted objects can be found in just about every home. And all are treasured objects.
