David has sinned. He...

David has sinned. He had stolen the wife of Uriah the Hittite, and Uriah was dead. David knew his sin, confessed his sin before the Lord and before Nathan the prophet. David had sinned, but the punishment fell on David's child. The child of David and Bathsheba would die for David's sin. David mourned through the child's dying hours. David fasted and prayed and begged that the child might live. While the child was dying, his grief was great; but when the child was dead, David's grief melted away. He washed and changed, worshiped and called for food. Why? David chose to rail against God'sjudgment, to storm heaven while there was a chance that the child might be saved. But, once the child was dead, David still knew that God was God, and moved on to the life God had waiting for him. David knew life and death, and knew that both are in the hands of God.
