Time for God
Children's sermon
Object:
a calendar
Good morning! The Bible tells us that we should spend a lot
of our time thinking about God and all the things He has done for
us instead of thinking about all the things we need to do here in
this world. How many of you think you spend more time thinking
about God and the church than you do thinking about other stuff
like school, playing, and so forth? (Let them answer.)
I have a calendar here, so let's look at it and see if we
can figure out how much time we spent thinking about the things
of God last week. We'll start with last Sunday. If you were in
church last week, you were spending time thinking about God in
church and in Sunday school. (Mark down some time on the
calendar.) How about the rest of the day? Did you spend any time
praying? (Let them answer.) How about on Monday? (Continue to go
through the days of the week putting down the time spent in
prayer, devotions, and so forth.)
I guess it's obvious that we spend most of our time thinking
about all kinds of things that have nothing to do with God, don't
we? (Let them answer.)
Now, we all have to live in this world and there's no way we
can ignore all the things we have to do to get along in it. We
have to spend time with school stuff, with games, with taking
care of all our chores, and so forth. But, don't you think we
should all make a little more time for God than we do? (Let them
answer.) Yes, I think we could all do better if we tried. Maybe
we should mark out some time on our calendars for God. We could
devote more time to prayers and reading the Bible, couldn't we?
(Let them answer.)
Dear God: We know that we don't spend enough time thinking about
You. Help us to make time for You in our busy lives. Amen.
