Heavenly Help Is On The Way!
Children's sermon
Object:
An energy drink
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.” (v. 16)
Good morning children,
You are looking beautiful to me today. Know why? Because all God's children are beautiful and that, of course, includes you. Knowing you are beautiful and beloved, does that make you feel strong and powerful? (children respond)
Do you sometimes feel kind of tired and weak? (children respond)
Sometimes adults, when tired, drink a little coffee to get a bit of energy.
(show energy drink) Sometimes people drink an energy drink or eat an energy bar to get some extra zip.
If I were to ask you to lift a 100-pound sack of cement up and over your head, could you do it? Could you do it if you drank an energy drink first? (children respond)
No, energy drinks have their limitations. You could drink a case of drinks and that would not enable you to lift 100 pounds. If you had a powerful friend, then you could do it.
Before Jesus left the earth he made an amazing promise about a powerful friend. He said, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.”
First of all, does Jesus keep his promises? (children respond) How many promises does Jesus make and keep? Would you guess 10 or 50 or 100? (children respond)
A school teacher from Kitchener, Canada, Everett Storms, read the Bible 27 times.
He said he found 7,487 promises God made to people. Interesting eh?
So when Jesus said he would send an advocate who would be a helper, a strong one, a friend from heaven, can we believe that will happen? (children respond)
Yes, it surely did happen! On the day we call Pentecost, the advocate, the Holy Spirit, came to give strength to weak knees and fainting hearts. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth helps us do God's mission. He helps us to believe. He helps us to pray and he helps us to become strong in Jesus.
Prayer: O Holy Spirit, our advocate, come and give us energy and power. Amen.
