Have faith!
Children's sermon
Object:
a swimming pool inner tube
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you like to go
swimming? (Let them answer.) I brought my tube with me this
morning. This tube helps me explain the word "faith." This
morning's lesson is about the word "faith." When you go swimming,
the pool usually gets deeper the farther you are from the pool's
edge. But if you use a tube like this one, it should hold you up.
When it holds you up, you don't have to worry about sinking, no
matter how deep the pool is. That means that you have faith in
your tube. You know that wherever you are in the pool -- no matter
how deep the water -- your tube will keep you on top. It is
important to have faith in your tube, isn't it? (Let them
answer.)
There was a man in the Bible named Abraham. He had a great amount of faith in God. His faith in God was like our faith in this tube. His faith was so great that God made him a promise that was almost impossible to believe. Abraham was a very, very old man. He was almost 100. He didn't have any children. God promised him a son. Most people would have laughed and said it was impossible to have a son at his age. But, Abraham's faith in God was great. Abraham's faith pleased God and God gave him a son. Abraham eventually became the "father of many nations." God's promise to Abraham came true because of his faith in God.
So, let me ask you, "What really pleases God?" (Let them answer.) The answer is: our faith in God and in Jesus. When we have that faith we share the faith of Abraham. When we have faith in God, it is like having faith in our inner tube. Our tube won't fail us. God won't either.
