Good deeds
Children's sermon
Object:
A friendly, homemade greeting card
Good evening, boys and girls. Have you ever done a "good deed"
by helping someone when that person needed help? (Let them
answer.) You may not know it, but I'll bet you've all done a good
deed sometimes. I want to tell you the story of a little boy. The
boy wanted to be a big help at home, but he didn't know how to do
it. Have any of you ever felt that way? You wanted to help at
home, but didn't know how? (Let them answer.)
The little boy was home playing. His mother came home from work. She was very tried. She sat down on the couch, took her shoes off and put her hands on her head (demonstrate) like this and just sat there. The boy knew that something was wrong. Mom must have had a bad day at work. Usually when his mom came home from work the two talked about their day. Usually they had a good time when she came home. He always looked forward to that time of the day. Not today.
The boy thought and thought. "What can I do to make my mom feel better?" he said to himself. Then he thought of something. He remembered some cheerful greeting card that he saw in a card shop. Maybe Mom would like to have one. So, he took a piece of paper and some colored pens and drew his own greeting card. On the outside he drew a picture of his mother. On the inside he wrote "Mom, I love you!" He signed his name and gave the card to his mother. (Show your greeting card.) She read the card and smiled. She hugged her son and thanked him. The card and her son's encouragement helped in her time of need. That's what Christians are to do. We are to do good deeds and help others in time of need.
