Angels
Children's sermon
Object:
An angel doll or a picture of an angel
Good morning! I brought a picture with me today to show you.
What is this a picture of? (Let them answer.) Have any of you ever
seen an angel? (Let them answer.) Well, I'm not sure I have ever
seen one either, but I know that there are angels because the
Bible tells us that they are real. They may not look like this
picture, but they are very real. God made them just as he made you
and he made all the other things in the whole universe.
Angels are God's messengers. They come to announce things to
people. For instance, do you remember the Christmas story when the
angels came to tell the shepherds that Jesus was born? (Let them
answer.) And just a few weeks ago we celebrated Easter. There was
an angel at the tomb to tell people that Jesus was not there; he
had risen from the dead.
Now how many angels do you think there are? (Let them
answer.) Well, nobody knows for sure, but we know that there are
many thousands. In the Book of Revelation, Saint John, in a
vision, saw more than a million angels around the throne of God.
That's a lot of angels, isn't it? (Let them answer.)
I think it is a very good thing that God has so many angels
to do his will. The Bible tells us that we may have met an angel
without recognizing that it was an angel. Maybe there is an angel
with us right now in this church. Wouldn't that be wonderful? (Let
them answer.)
Dear Heavenly Father: Thank you for creating angels and using them
to tell us good news and to watch over us. Amen.
