Call To Worship
God, who meets our Egypts with enough joy and tenacity to endure, will lead us also out of Egypt. God will bring us to a new place in our living. This is the journey we call Lent. Let us come before God this first Sunday in Lent expecting to meet God. Let us be open to the new place in our living that God would have us be.
Collect
Gracious and Sustaining God, we are moving forward on life's road. Help us to hear the message that you care about us. Let us be aware of others who also journey to a new place. Remind us that we are linked together as we wander and roam. Help us to tend for and care about each other. In the name of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We get to feeling, dear God, that our journey is solitary. When we get beyond ourselves and look around, we see many who hurt and who need a new place in their living. Increase our compassion for one another along the way as together we summon the strength to claim what you offer us. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
20C Hymns1

People: The same God is Savior of all.
Leader: Believe in your heart that God is at work in the lives of all.
People: The same God is generous to all who call.
Leader: God brings everyone together. God rebuilds us. God restores us.
People: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Collect
Teach us to cry to you for help, O God, when life seems hopeless. Teach us to cry for help when those we trust fail us. Teach us to ask for direction when we lose our sense of purpose. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Help us to believe more than in theory, God. Let us bring closer the far away cross. Draw us to believe with our whole heart so you can save us. In the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
20C Hymns1
"Wake My Soul" Tune: HAYDN
"On A Hill Far Away" Tune: THE OLD RUGGED CROSS
"God Is At Work In Life" Tune: WORKING
First Sunday In Lent
Gospel: Luke 4:1-13
Theme: Courage To Become
Call To Worship
We need God to be with us in the wilderness times. We need God during times of change as our vulnerability slips in unnoticed. We need God's presence if we are to garner enough courage to become fully human, fully loving and sustaining persons. Come, let us worship God.
Collect
We would take on your way of living, O God. We would live as simple and forgiving people. Let us enter the wilderness with trusting hearts, sure of your presence as we seek you. Let us become aware of you at our center when life turns us around. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God, you would not believe the distractions that take us off course. They seem innocent. They promise. They cajole. They flatter. They tempt. Give us the courage to become as you would have us be. Stand by us. Set us straight when we succumb to the bait of destruction. Amen.
20C Hymns1
"Take My Yoke Upon You" Tune: TACOMA
"In The Cross Of Christ I Glory" Tune: RATHBUN or TOMTER
"O Jesus Christ, May Grateful Hymns" Tune: CHARTERHOUSE
