Years ago Martha Berry, founder of the Berry Schools in the mountains of Georgia, visited Henry Ford. She asked him for ten cents! When he asked her why such a small amount was requested, Martha said, "I just want to show you what I can do with ten cents, Mr. Ford."
He gave her the dime and she bought some seed peanuts with it. These she planted and later harvested. The next season she replanted again the seeds from the first planting.
Mrs. Berry repeated the process for four years, and sold that crop for $10,000. Then she went back to see Henry Ford, the auto millionaire, and reported on the project. He was quite surprised.
"I just wanted you to know," she said, "what I can do with an investment. I have given everything I had to these Georgia mountain children, and I want you to do something for them also."
So Mr. Ford wrote out a check and gave it to her. It was for two million dollars!
