A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
From out the cloud that wrapped them round
there came to them an awesome sound
for, when the solemn silence broke,
the voice they heard was God, who spoke
and said, 'This is my chosen son.
Hear him.'
When we are with him on the mount
as, contemplating the account
we have of what took place that day,
’twill likely make us want to stay
As long as life on earth shall run,
near him.
But life’s not always so sublime
nor always lived on 'mountain time.'
His words then help us find the key,
'Take up your cross and follow me.'
If life you’d have with nought but fun,
Fear him.
In this life, he’s our guide and strength.
and, when we face our death at length,
he’ll sit in judgment on our lives;
from him our hope of heav’n derives.
Through him eternity is won.
Revere him.
