It was sheer tragedy!
James Timanus had trained, and graduated with honors, to be a medical doctor. He was then married, and with his new bride boarded an excursion ship at Detroit, Michigan, to celebrate with a trip on the Great Lakes before going to his medical practice.
But during the night the ship's boiler exploded and set a fire that spread so rapidly that many passengers lost their lives. It was the ship named the SS Noronic. Included in the lost were Dr. Timanus and his wife. Of course, the family back in Fostoria, Ohio, was devastated. What could they do now?
Insurance money from coverage for the excursion ship helped to redeem the consequences. The parents of the couple established a scholarship for pre-medical students at Jim's alma mater, The College of Wooster. Even today it provides help for physicians in the making. The goal of Jim Timanus is being met. Praise the Lord!
