It was during the 1950s and the young couple came to their pastor for premarital counseling. When the groom-to-be inquired about the pastor's fee, the pastor said he would make them a deal. In those days the usual amount was $10.
"If you give me a check for $9.98 after the marriage ceremony, I will accept it. Three months later, if you think it was worth the money you gave me, I will accept the other two cents."
The pastor had forgotten about it, but on a Sunday morning three months later, after the morning service at the church, the groom handed the pastor two cents and they smiled.
Years later, they met again and agreed it had been a good deal!
