Call To Worship (Psalm 104:31)
May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works!
Collect
Open the graves of our lost desire. Clothe the bones of our skeletal discipleship. Fill us with your Spirit, so we again become your Pentecostal people. We're shifting our weight uncomfortably, Lord, because we know if we claim this new life we're going to have to get up and get moving. These bones can live! Speak Lord. We will act. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Can these bones live? I believe, Lord. Help my unbelief! Amen.
Hymns
Ezekiel Saw The Wheel
Dem Bones
Breathe On Me, Breath Of God
The Day Of Pentecost
Second Lesson: Acts 2:1-21
Theme: The True Gate Of Heaven
Call To Worship
Listen: Once long ago, the Tower of Babel reached up to touch heaven, but it all came to nothing but babble. Babylon claimed to be the true gate of heaven, but that all proved to be nothing but babble. You can't put down deep roots and claim to control God. The Spirit speaks with clarity through God's people, so that all might hear the great news in their own tongue. Gone is Babel, Babylon, babble, and here to stay is the Spirit and we'll never hold still again. Welcome. This is the gate of heaven, and it's time we know it!
Collect (based on Psalm 103:33)
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. Come Holy Spirit, fill our song and our praise with new life. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we rejoice in you. We pray that with your help our worship will cause you to rejoice in us as well. We praise you for the way your Spirit moves among us, giving us what we need in due season. Lord, we are dismayed when it feels as if you are distant from us. We rejoice, in both triumph and tragedy, when you grant us a sense of your presence. Send forth your Spirit, create in us a pure heart, renew us as your people. Amen.
Hymns
Praise To The Lord, The Almighty
My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less
Christian Let Your Burning Light
The Day Of Pentecost
Gospel Lesson: John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15
Theme: Comforters And Quilts
Call To Worship
Welcome the comforter in our midst. Take courage, God's people, for now we are never alone!
Collect (from Psalm 103:31, 34, 35)
I rejoice in the Lord. Bless the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Spirit of God, moving, revealing, we have looked everywhere for signs of your presence and missed the wonder of your dwelling in our hearts. We will not try to control you, co-opt you for our causes, nor claim to speak for you when it is our convenience and comfort we really desire. Stand behind us, Spirit of God, and push! We let go of our will and wait expectantly for your mission to be fulfilled. Amen.
Hymns
Blessed Quietness
There Are Many Gifts, But The Same Spirit
Spirit Of The Living God
May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works!
