Call To Worship
Eat in haste. Make no waste. Pack your clothes. No one knows when death calls, when doom falls. Be prepared. Don't be scared. In the dark, in the night, mind you, mark that all is right. God is here. Have no fear. Leave your past. This will last. Make no waste. Eat in haste.
Collect
All God's people stand at the edge of true freedom. All God's people want to be free. Once we wore ashes, the symbol of our sins. Now we bear a different mark, the mark of God's chosen, the mark of the saved. Lord, we are not worthy that you should enter under our roof. Only say the word, and we servants will be healed. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Saved by blood? Blood splattered over the door of our home, our hovel in the house of bondage -- that will save us, God of the Exodus? That will set us free? Dare I believe? Do I have a choice? There's no going back. Lord be with us in our fears. Save us through the blood of the Lamb. Amen.
Hymns
Lift Every Voice And Sing
When Egypt Was In Israel's Land
Here In This Place!

Maundy Thursday
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Theme: Been There. Done That.
Call To Worship (Psalm 116:12-13)
One:
What shall I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me?
All:
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
Collect
Lift high the cross. Lift high the cup. Like the apostles at that final supper, we stand on the brink together, not knowing what may happen, but we know we must let go, and fall or fly with Jesus. Grant us the courage, King of salvation, to step into the darkness with you, that we may forever walk in the light. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
What a privilege, what a pearl of great price, to approach once more your table, your throne. Yet how we take it for granted, even ignoring the opportunity if other distractions call. This night we gather to laugh, to sing, to pray, to cry, to love, as one people. We pledge that we shall not take for granted again this mystery of faith and action. We love you, Lord Jesus. We approach as sinners. We hope to depart as your people. Amen.
Hymns
Let Us Break Bread Together
Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Maundy Thursday
Gospel Lesson: John 13:1-17, 31b-35
Theme: Oh? You Really Meant What You Said?
Call To Worship
"Our Lord in the gospel is girt with a towel, he prepares a basin to wash the disciples' feet, he performs the service of a slave. Granted, it is to teach humility, that we may minister to each other in turn. I do not deny that. I do not reject it ... that the words of the prophet may be applicable to (us): How beautiful are the feet of those that preach peace."
-- Jerome, Epistle 17.12
Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Vol. X, p. 321
Collect (Proverbs 15:15-17)
All:
All the days of the poor are hard, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.
Women:
Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.
Men:
Better is a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (based on Matthew 8:8)
Lord, we are not worthy that you should come under our roof. We give thanks that you do not stand on ceremony, but enter in whether we invite you or not. Bless us with your presence this evening. As we celebrate this most special night in your ministry, draw us together in your love, to your purpose. Not our will, but your will, Heavenly Father. These things we pray as your faithful people. Amen.
