Call To Worship
David never read the owner's manual. In his eagerness to transport the Ark to his new capital, uniting the north and south in one kingdom, he failed to include Levites in the procession. Uzziah died for David's sin. David responded with anger, grief, bargaining, denial, and finally acceptance, as he accepted forgiveness for his sin. What scandalized people is that he acted forgiven, dancing before the Ark as it was properly processed into Jerusalem.
Collect
Forgiving God, we live again when we not only accept your forgiveness, but live it! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (1 Corinthians 1:18 and 27)
One:
For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
All:
But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.
Hymns
Surely The Presence Of The Lord Is In This Place
Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise
Lift Every Voice And Sing
Proper 10 / Ordinary Time 15
Sunday between July 10 and July 16 inclusive
Second Lesson: Ephesians 1:3-14
Theme: Adoption Papers
Call To Worship
Come, God's people, found by one, who now are one in Christ.
Collect
Father, we take your name as our own, and joyfully claim our place in your family. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, listen to your people praying. Your faithfulness is evident all around us, in the green of the hill, in the rushing of the rivers, and in the life that surrounds us. The birds who eat the seeds we leave out, and the birds who plunder the fruit we thought we would save for ourselves, are both yours. The bears who forage in the woods and who rummage through our trash are yours, also. Lord, this is your world and not ours, and surely your presence is in this place, whether or not it suits our purposes. We praise you, Lord, for who you are, and not what we would have you be. We love your world for what it is, and not what we would make it do for us. We praise you for your people as you made us, not by whom we would exclude, condemn, or deny. God of glory, your wisdom is sufficient for us this day. Amen.

Proper 10 / Ordinary Time 15

Gospel Lesson: Mark 6:14-29
Theme: A Hasty Execution
Call To Worship (Psalm 24:1-2)
The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers.
Collect
Glorious Lord, we praise your name. Rulers come and go, but you are our rock, our fortress, our shield. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of history, the Herods of this world hold the power of life and death in their hands, which is no power at all. We do not fear them, we do not obey them, we do not honor the Herods of this world. Yours is the earth, and all that is in it. We confess that you are Lord, and are willing to lose all to gain all, clinging to the cross when all chase after shadows. Grant us your light in this and every hour. These things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
