Call To Worship (Psalm 8:1, 3-4, 9)
One:
O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
All:
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
One:
Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.
All:
O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Collect
We say, "Amen," to your glory, God of light, God of power! No one could do better. No one would want to! Hallelujah! Amen!
Prayer Of Confession
God after winter, God of new life, the world is alive with praise. Bulbs are ready to spring! Why do we fail to join in this joyful praise? What more could we ask for? We neglect to say, "Amen," to your glory. We come chastened but ready to recognize your hand in the world and in all our days. Amen.
Hymns
Come, Now Is The Time To Worship
Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
Take My Hand And Lead Me Father
Seventh Sunday After The Epiphany
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 1:18-22
Theme: Every One of God's Promises Is A "Yes"
Call To Worship (Isaiah 43:18-19)
Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Collect
In your sign, Lord, we shall conquer as you establish your peace. Your sign is the cross. We are as ready with Jesus to turn the world upside down, loving our enemies, doing well to our enemies, doing good for those who hate us, blessing those who curse us, praying for those who persecute us. In your cross, in your love, we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (based on 2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
God of healing, establish and anoint us in Christ, setting your seal on us, and granting us your Spirit in our hearts. Amen.
Hymns
Breathe Upon Us, Holy Spirit
Awake, My Soul, And With The Sun ("Doxology" -- The Album Version; see page 241)
I Am Thine, O Lord
Seventh Sunday After The Epiphany
Gospel Lesson: Mark 2:1-12
Theme: We've Never Seen Anything Like This!
Call To Worship
We say, "Amen" to God's glory! We've never seen anything like this. Power and authority is in our midst! Praise God.
Collect
Heavenly Father, we gather in your name this day to praise your name and to await your will for our lives. We know that your promises for our lives will be fulfilled in a time of your choosing. As we anticipate your glory we ask that you fill us with a sense of your presence in your gathering, in our praising, and as we leave to take your good news of salvation into the world. These things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We say, "Amen" to God's glory! We say, "Amen," as long as God works through the people we get along with. When it comes to our young adults, our seniors, our working people, our single parents, our teens, our toddlers, our gifted, our struggling, our challenged, our challengers, we're not sure. Amen, God! Work with those we admire, but not too often or we'll stop admiring them. Amen, God! Amen!
